The sun beamed down Saturday on the official opening of the new Northside Hospital Cherokee and with the help of staff, volunteers and law enforcement, 70 patients were successfully transferred to the new $280 million facility.

Northside Hospital Cherokee also had the first baby born just a few hours after the doors officially opened Saturday morning.

The long-awaited hospital opened its doors at 5 a.m. and began transferring patients from the old hospital only a few miles up the road to the new facility, a transition that CEO of Northside Hospital Cherokee, Billy Hayes said “couldn’t have gone any better.”
